CHAN 2016: DR Congo into final after beating Guinea on penalties

DR Congo edged Guinea 5-4 on penalties in a feisty encounter to proceed to the Chan 2016 final at a boisterous Amahoro Stadium.

The Leopards came into this fixture as favourites but the Syli Nationale held them to a goalless draw in regular time to force the game into extra time.

Congolese striker Jonathan Bolingi Mpangi converted on the 101st minute past Guinean goalkeeper Abdoul Aziz Keita to put his side ahead.

However Guinea equalized in the 120th minute after Ibrahima Sory Sankhon slotted home past Congolese goalkeeper Ley Matampi to force penalties.

And after a perfect start for both sides, Meshack Elia scored with a fine finish to give the Leopards a 5-4 lead and it was Matampi’s save of Mohamed Youla’s penalty that handed Florent Ibenge’s side victory.

DR Congo will face the winner of Thursday’s encounter between Ivory Coast and Mali.
