Mou and Pep may go head-to-head again in the Prem. Image: eurosportManchester United have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho following Manchester City’s capture of Pep Guardiola, according to the Daily Star.

Sources claim United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has decided to let go of beleaguered manager Louis Van Gaal as the club looks to remain relevant in a league where Guardiola is largely expected to raise the bar.

“He knows Mourinho is the only man who can go toe-to-toe with Guardiola and wil make his move for the former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss,” the Daily Star reports.

“It delivers the mouthwatering prospect of the bitter enemies and two most high-profile bosses in world football resuming battle in the Premier League.

“Mourinho has made it clear he wants to take charge of United and will jump at the chance of going up against Guardiola again,” Daily Star further stated

Mourinho and Guardiola are two of the super-coaches in the game and had the world spellbound with their intense rivalry while at Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, with tensions boiling over on a number of occasions.

Guardiola leads their head-to-head 8-3, with five draws between them in 16 clashes.
