Meanwhile, there was palpable tension in Benin
City on Tuesday as a result of a bomb explosion that affected at least five
houses.
Residents of Zomi Zomi street in Upper Sakpoba
Road of the city were reported to have taken to their heels on hearing the
sound of the explosion, fearing an invasion by terrorist group, Boko Haram.
A police source told Vanguard newspaper that “we
learnt that the bungalow was occupied some months ago by suspected kidnappers.
But a combined unit of soldiers and police invaded the place and arrested the
suspects.
“So recently, somebody hired the building and just
this afternoon, decided to burn refuse in the compound. He set the fire and
went out to buy something. But immediately he left the bomb exploded. He never
knew that the kidnappers left some bombs in the house.”
Bomb disposal experts from the Edo state police
command have cordoned off the building and are trying to ascertain if there are
more explosive devices within the building.
The tenants who reside in the building were taken
away while one woman who was said to have sustained a deep cut during the blast
was rushed to the hospital.
