David
de Gea made another blunder while on Spain duty in midweek as his fumbled save
allowed Croatia to net an injury-time winner in the two teams' crunch Nations
League clash. The
scores were level at 2-2 in Zagreb when United goalkeeper De Gea parried Josip
Brekalo's low drive into the path of Tin Jedvaj, who duly slotted home his
second goal of the game to snatch all three points for Croatia.
De
Gea's performances for Spain have been scrutinised since the World Cup, a
tournament during which he made just one save, but Atletico Madrid's Saul
Niguez believes 'negative energy' is contributing to his struggles on the
international stage.
“When
you put so much criticism on a player, it affects us all,” Saul said. “Even if
we say, 'No, it is not good for anyone that De Gea receives criticism, they
should not be like that'.
“He
is one of the best in the world. There may be times when you decide good or bad
and for me it is unfair that you blame De Gea.
“I
do not think he lacks confidence, he shows a tremendous personality, but what
is generated, that negative energy, is not good for anyone.
