Super Eagles climb to 63rd in the latest FIFA Rankings

Nigeria climb on the Fifa rankings. Image: Complete sportsThe Super Eagles of Nigeria moved up three places to 63rd in the latest Fifa World rankings released on Thursday.

The three-time African champions, fresh off a disappointing outing at the Championship of African Nations (CHAN 2016) where they failed to make it out of the group stage, still surged forward with a total of 543 ranking points.

This marginal improvement on the standings comes after the Sunday Oliseh-led side recorded three wins, a draw and a defeat in January.

The Eagles have also moved up two places on the continent to 12th, but remain eight places behind the pharaohs of Egypt whom they take on in a crucial AFCON 2017 qualification double header in March.

Reigning African champions Cote d’Ivoire are pacesetters on the continent, followed by the Fennecs of Algeria, Ghana’s Black Stars, the Teranga Lions of Senegal and the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

The Red Devils of Belgium maintain their unlikely lead at the top of world football, followed by Argentina, European champions Spain, World champions Germany and Copa America holders Chile.

The next world rankings will be released March 3rd.
