Jay Z’s record label Roc Nation slams singer Rita Ora with a $2.3 million lawsuit

Last year, we reported that British singer Rita Ora had filed a lawsuit against her record label Roc Nation, which is owned by Jay Z, for neglecting her as an artiste and refusing to release her from her contract. She claims the label began to ignore her when they started representing professional athletes and when Jay Z launched his music streaming service, Tidal.

Rita also accused Rihanna, who is also signed to Roc Nation, of using her relationship with Jay Z to sabotage her music career. She revealed that Rihanna usually got first selections of songs and ensured her own songs weren’t treated as priority by the label.

Now TMZ is reporting that Roc Nation is filing their own lawsuit against the Poison singer. According to the label, they had signed the 25-year-old singer in 2008 when she was a nobody and invested millions in her career. They also added that her contract had stated that she was to deliver 5 albums, but they only got one. Ora has however repeatedly stated that she had recorded a few songs that had been neglected by the label.

The label reportedly stated they have already spent more than $2.4 million marketing her second LP and the point of the lawsuit is to get the money back. Meanwhile, Rita Ora’s lawyer Howard King claims Jay Z has already made promises to release Rita from her contract which is due to be terminated in 2019.
