Father Mbaka denies taking cash gifts from the President: “One kobo has never entered my hand”

Popular Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has shut down the rumour that he collected cash gifts from President Buhari during his visit to the Presidential Villa, Vanguard reports.

“When eventually I met Buhari when I went for prayers at Aso Rock, what I demanded from him was good governance for Nigeria,” the priest said of his December 18 visit. “I didn’t ask him to give me one kobo. One kobo of Buhari[‘s money] has never entered my hand.”

Father Mbaka said all he got from the president was ‘thanks’ for what he had done and said during the 2015 elections. “It brought you out to the whole country as a man of courage,” President Buhari reportedly told Father Mbaka. “It was honest and well delivered.

“It has gone into the records as one of the best concerns expressed from the pulpit, not because it favoured me and my party, the All Progressives Congress, but because it was good for the country,” the president concluded.

This visit and the priest’s unabashed support for the presidency led to the speculation that his transfer to Our Lady’s Parish in Emene was a punitive measure.
